ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS

Commoner on obese individuals, this rather distinct disease is more of a cosmetic problem.  Thick blackish velvety plaques develop in the armpits, groins.  Other areas like umbilicus, neck may also be involved.

Rarely internal cancers may result in a similar appearance.

 

Treatment

Topical treatments like 2% salicyclic acid   may be used by your doctor if it is cosmetically unacceptable.
