Arsenical keratosis Arsenic had been used as a treatment for syphilis , psoriasis and
was present in health tonics previously.
Arsenical keratosis are small raised warty lesions on the palms and
soles, but may be seen elsewhere. It can also
result in color changes on the skin rather descriptively called "raindrops
on a dusky pavement" on the back. On an average as it is a
late phenomenon the time of appearance between arsenic ingestion and appearance
of keratosis can take upto 6 years. Arsenic can also result in skin cancers like Bowen’s disease.
Squamous cell carcinoma or basal cell carcinoma.
It is also linked to internal tumours like lung cancer, breast, pancreas,
stomach cancer.
