BLUE
NEVUS This
is a type of a mole that is usually present at birth but can develop later in
life as well. There
are 3 types of blue nevus
Common blue nevus: This is seen as a small bluish grey papule commonly over the hands and feet. It develops later in life Cellular blue nevus: This is bigger in size reaching upto 3cm in diameter. Combined blue nevus and melanocytic nevus: These also present as bluish grey nodules or plaques and may be present at birth or develop later in life. Blue Nevus are present in
about 1: 3000 people. It can be
seen in the oral cavity and other internal sites. Treatment Any blue nevus which has not changed recently can be left alone. Any change warrants a deep biopsy to look under the microscope. Regular examinations should be done of all blue nevus which can be done
by the patient.
