KERATO
ACANTHOMA An uncommon tumor occurring mainly on exposed areas – face, arms, hands. It has a initial rapid growth phase and then forms a central depression and resolves in 6 – 12 months. Seen as a skin colored or pink brown papule with hard warty surface and central crateriform depression it is considered benign by most doctors although a few consider it as skin cancer. Even
though it resolves on its own the scar is unsightly.
A skin biopsy to remove the lesion is usually performed.
Under the microscope it can be difficult to exclude squamous
cell carcinoma hence this is best removed fully. Treatment Full
removal by a skin biopsy Note:
A few patients have multiple nodules with a familial tendency to develop more
lesions.
