Keratosis
Pilaris This
is a very common skin condition present in nearly 40% of the population. It causes tiny skin colored papules that have a central
raised whitish or skin colored core. The
whole process is centered on a hair follicle.
The areas affected are usually arms, thighs and buttocks.
Other areas like the abdomen and legs may be affected rarely.
In people with asthma, dry skin, it is more common. The
cause for this condition is unknown, however a defect in the cells that are shed
from the hair follicle opening is thought to be one reason. Treatment Moistening creams containing urea can be obtained from your chemists. 12% ammonium lactate lotion (lachydrinTM ) can also be used. If any soreness is present 0.5% hydrocortisone ointment can be obtained from chemists and used for a week.
