Liquid nitrogen treatment

Liquid nitrogen treatment is available in canisters for treatment.  The temperature is –196C so it stings on application.  It is applied to the growth until it whitens and a thin 2mm film of whitening appears all around.

Some doctors tend to use 2 cycles i.e. they allow it to thaw and freeze it again.  Then the lesion is allowed to thaw.  This is very painful while it is being done.

It usually settles in a few minutes.

However it is accompanied by  blister formation and resolves in a few weeks.  Sometimes your doctor may use special probes to make sure the growth is freezed to the right temperature.

If you have any pain on the day of the treatment you may take a course of paracetamol tablets.  The treatment is usually repeated in 3-6 weeks till resolution.
