POMPHOLYX

 

Other names Dyshidrosis, Dyshidrotic eczema

 

This is a blistering disease affecting the palms and soles.  It is more common in early middle age.  Cheiro pompholyx – palms are involved.  Pedo pompholyx – soles are involved.

 

It starts suddenly as multiple dense vesicles and blisters on palms, soles and fingers.  As the vesicles and blisters settles they may cause scaling of the skin.  In some patients increased sweating has been noted.  There is a history of asthma and metal allergy in some patients.

 

Treatment

 

  1. Topical steroids.
  2. Systemic steroids.
  3. Phototherapy with topical PUVA.
