POROKERATOSIS

 

There are 4 types of this disease.  It is caused by a defect in the formation of skin (keratinization)

  1. Porokeratosis of mibelli
  2. Disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis
  3. Porokeratosis palmaris plantaris et disseminata
  4. Linear porokeratosis

 

Porokeratosis of mibelli

 

This happens as a single or few plaques with a central depression and a marginated border.  It can occur any where in the body.  A skin biopsy can identify the diagnosis.  A very small no of these can turn into skin cancers.

 

Treatment – Excision (skin biopsy)

 

5 Fluorouracil application

Cryotherapy

Disseminated superficial Actinic porokeratosis

 

This is commoner than the other types.  Numerous lesions appear all over the body.  The classic raised border is s little less prominent here.

 

Treatment is as for porokeratosis

 

Porokeratosis Plantaris, palmaris et dissemination

This is porokeratosis on the palms and soles and may spread to other areas of the body.  It runs in families.  Again some of these can rarely become skin cancer.

LINEAR POROKERATOSIS

The papules and plaques are arranged in a linear pattern over the body.
