PRETIBIAL MYXOEDEMA

This is a specific condition seen on the shins of patients with hyperthyroidism (increased thyroid function)

A substance called hyaluronic acid is accumulated in the skin.

The shins appear edematous with swelling that is non pitting, plaques or nodules may appear.

Skin biopsy will confirm the diagnosis
