PITYRIASIS ROSEA This is an acute rash, the cause of which is unknown. It usually starts as a coin shaped scaly patch with central area showing normal skin. On the trunk a few days later a generalized eruption of small reddish oral scaly papules appear over the bathing suit distribution. Itching is slight. This usually settles in 4-6 weeks rarely 10 weeks. Some drugs like Gold, captopril, barbiturates may cause a similar rash. No
investigation is usually necessary for typical cases but your doctor might do a
blood test to exclude syphilis as it can mimic Pityriasis Rosea. Treatment Topical
steroids usually help itching. Sun
exposure may reduce the itching and help to resolve the rash quicker.
